GeekBrief shakes it to Hex
creative, digg, diggnation, geek, geekbrief, pixelperfect, podcast May 3rd, 2007
There are a few video podcasts I like to follow. One of them I’ve mentioned before - PixelPerfect - but a few of the others are Diggnation with Kevin Rose and Alex Albrecht and GeekBrief.TV with Cali Lewis (pictured here).
Wow. That’s a lot of links. Moving on…
In GeekBrief Cali just aired a segment Digg the Code; “a song to commemorate this moment in Digg history.” It references Kevin’s Post that Brent had provided earlier. I like how they mixed the footage of her with Kevin and Alex. A modern day protest song.
And she’s just so darn cute dancing around like nobodies business.

GeekBrief.TV?!?!? You gotta be kidding me. That is a worthless /dev/null of dreck. The skimpy dress of the completely uninformed host is not enough to endure the worthless content.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, there. Let’s be fair now - more than half of the time she wears a t-shirt.
There are some nice things about it though. It comes out frequently and it’s always 2-5 minutes long. An entire episode is the length of some commercial breaks so it’s not like you have to set aside time to keep up on it.
And she does stay current and follows the buzz. Mentioned the digg mess on May 3, talked about Silverlight Apr 16, talked about internet radio Apr 19, Goog-411 Apr 10, etc.
So it may be skimming the surface a bit, but I’ll take that any day over something like “the source” where I learned about zfs. The one and only episode I watched was like an hour long of this guy interviewing two people from Sun I believe. The best line was “of course I’m a unix admin so I understand how you would normally configure this type of system, but for the benefits of the viewers could you explain how this differs from a traditional blah blah blah”
I mean omg. How insecure do you need to be to literally restate your qualifications before asking a person you’re interviewing a question?
I do watch dl.tv too, but again that’s like 40+ minutes a few times a week.

@Louis, thanks!
@Jamie, one of the things we try to do with GeekBrief.TV is bridge the gap between the tech world and average everyday people. We have a ton of hard core techies who watch, but the majority of our viewers are people looking for an overview. That’s why we call it a “brief”. It’s bullet points. Any one interested in delving deeper can start with links in our show notes and beyond that there is an endless supply of depth.
I like that hard core techies watch, but I also LOVE when I get email from a Mom or Dad who tells me GBTV makes technology accessible for them.

@Lou, settle down that Cali Lewis came and posted on your site!
@Cali, I was only a brief watcher of GeekBrief, after I got my Apple TV and was grabbing up some video like crazy. Perhaps there is more there than I saw, but the Natali del Conte interview broke me and I just had to unsubscribe. I do applaud you actively participating on the web, and do recognize that I’m likely not your target audience.

Ha, good times. You’re right I do think that’s great. Hi Cali!
It’s also a great example of the new internet in action; opinions indexed and connected by rss and href. You know? It’s amazing you can post about a public figure and they can respond in context within days.
